The purpose of link is to give three weeks for you to get hands on experience at a business of your choice to find out if it is a career or field that you would be interested in after college or high school.
The Maker Space
The power house/Maker space is a community hub that has every tool imagine able for you to make or complete projects that you are working on.
Preparation for link
Looking for my link internship was much more straightforward than many others because I was already an intern at the maker lab before link. The only thing that I had to do was confirm my internship with Janae.
The project that I chose to work on for link was a IFTTT capable coat rack that would change its color based on the weather report.
Reflection on Link
The link experience was a great experience for me to help focus my career interests. Some of the skills that were helpful in my link were my welding skills and some limited coding knowledge. The coding was especially helpful because it allowed me to understand the steps that I needed to take to get my project done and why it broke at times. Some of the skills that I built on were my coding knowledge along with my at the time nonexistent knowledge of CAD programs used in manufacturing. One of the biggest challenges I faced during the project was the code and the many minor details that have to be watched when it is done. This then helped me understand the function library's play when coding and how to fix them. The internship has helped me see more clearly what the engineering field does more accurately and how to adapt my college and career path to that.
